Ian Davenport, Michael Craig-Martin and Julian Opie Open viewing until 20th March 2010
Exhibition Information
Our first exhibition of 2010 features three of our favourite artits; Michael Craig-Martin, Ian Davenport
and Julian Opie. The show will showcase limited edition prints and video instalations created by these
exciting artists.
Julian Opie
Julian Opie was born in Oxford in 1958. One of Britain's leading contemporary artists, his
distinctive images are created by initially taking photographs of his subject matter which are
then digitally manipulated. He constructs images by a process of elimination and distillation
which he then 'paints' using a vast array of media.
Michael Craig-Martin
Born in London in 1941 Craig-Martin was a prominent figure in the 1960s conceptual art movement
and was an influential tutor of the Young British Artists. His bold images of everyday objects in
saturated neon-bright flat colour explore the nature of representation and the role of the spectator.
Ian Davenport
Davenport was born in Sidcup, London in 1966. A previous student of Michael Craig-Martin,
Davenport exhibited in the 1998 Damien Hirst-curated Freeze exhibition and soon after became
recognized as one of the Young British Artists. His work explores the inherent qualities of paint
and means of its application. His inspiration has comes from artists such as Bridget Riley and
Jackson Pollock.
