Bill Jackson, further information

Bill Jackson is originally from the Midlands where he went to Coventry School of Art and Birmingham School of Art in the 1970's. He first exhibited at The Photographers Gallery in 1980 in the exhibition on the history of dance photography called 'Fleeting Gestures' curated by Bill Jay of the ICP gallery in New York. Since then he has exhibited all over the world in galleries and museums from New York to London and Argentina to Prague.

His work is strictly limited edition prints and collected by many art buyers. Originally he worked as a 'street' documentary photographer pushing the conception of this type of work by hand colouring the results and only exhibiting them and not for media publication. He recognised the 'art' quality of documentary work. By 1986 he began to work with early electronic artforms including video and computer graphics. He then spent nearly 20 years away from the print by exploring virtual space and installation work. He was film maker in residence at The Royal Pump Rooms in Leamington Spa, where he was commissioned to produce an video installation piece for Artsweek 2002.

He currently lives and works in London where his return to print based work has been highly acclaimed. Much of the work in recent months have come out of ideas exploring the nature of objects and materials in his studio. He recently won the Toray Industries Creative Digital Award in Japan and was a prizewinner at orilla 6 at the Museum of Contemporay Arts in Sante Fe Argentina.
