"La Californie Suite", further information
In 1955 Picasso purchased "La Californie", a mansion situated in one of Cannes exclusive suburbs overlooking the city. Picasso, now 71 lived in the mansion with his future second wife Jacqueline Roque.
During the following four years he created a series of paintings in response to the death of Henri Matisse called "La Studio Le Californie" which are now on display at the Musée Picasso in Paris. He also produced a large number of sketches detailing his new studio and living space.
This exhibition showcases a complete set of limited edition lithographs taken from these sketches. A mixture of both colour and black and white images give a real insight into Picasso's life in the south of France.
