Exhibition and Artist Information
Pete McKee's art lays bare the human side of Northern working-class life. His inspiration is the vividly
remembered places and characters of his youth in the 1960s and '70s - the days when everyone
had a cigarette on the go and working men's clubs were full of working men (and occasionally
their wives); when holidays meant fish and chips on the seafront at Skegness.
Pete has achieved legendary status in his native Sheffield, where his evocation of place and
time has fired the imagination of the Steel City; and yet it's much more than local nostalgia,
as a growing worldwide reputation attests. Pete's focus on everyday life and pop-culture has a
poignancy and resonance which has caught the attention of many collectors including Noel
Gallagher, Damien Hirst, Paul Smith and The Arctic Monkeys among others.
Pete is a self-taught artist whose remarkable talent, incisive observation and years spent as a
spare-time jobbing cartoonist have contributed to his success. He has enjoyed numerous sell-out
shows, exhibiting throughout the country, in New York and most recently at Paul Smith's Space
gallery in Tokyo.
We are please to announce that Pete himself will be attending the opening night of our exhibition
which will showcase a wide variety of prints and original paintings. For further details please
