Tim Southall is primarily a printmaker who also paints. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, he works extensively in etching and silkscreen and creates pictures that are emotive, dramatic, colourful, sometimes funny and always fresh. With a subject range that moves from the historical to the whimsical, from the architecture of Venice to sweeping landscapes of England, from seascapes to portraiture, there is always vitality in his work; an attempt to take a new look at the everyday and make a picture that is different and dynamic. And whatever the subject or medium, strong drawing and composition underpin the images.
Southall splits his time between his house and studio in southern Spain, London and the London Print Studio and Birmingham Printmakers, where he is an active member.
